for parents who already care

Raise a child who notices the natural world

…and grows up genuinely caring about it.

Small shifts in the words you use, the things you point out, the stories you tell and the habits you repeat. They slot into moments you’re already having: the car ride, the dinner table, the ten minutes before bed.

Children learn to care in the most ordinary of moments

Two children crouched on a path, looking closely at the ground

the beetle crossing their path

A girl leaping along a sunlit path while her little brother watches

the bird calling outside the window

Two children crouching to look at something among the stones

how it actually works

A day of small shifts

Nothing extra to schedule. Each shift takes a few seconds and lives inside a moment that was going to happen anyway.

Point something out

A ten-second noticing cue: what's new on the way to the car today?

Swap a word

One swapped word, like “seed soldier”, adds a whole lot more interest.

Say thank you

“Thank you, tree.” Three seconds. No activity to set up.

Tell it as a story

A story that makes the living world feel alive with meaning.

Some days you remember to do it. And some days you won’t. That's ok.

We're about: Small shifts. Deep roots.

why it works

Greener choices are the leaves. We work at the roots.

Recycling, conserving and making greener choices all matter. But, long before children make those choices themselves, they’re soaking up a sense of what matters and how people belong to the rest of the living world.

Home is one of the first places that sense takes shape, through ordinary words, stories and routines.

That’s where ReGrounded works.

a note from me

Hi, I’m Jess

I have a PhD in Environmental Ethics and spent years researching and lecturing on how people relate to the natural world.

I’m also a mom of three. We have screen-time battles. There are low-energy days. There are no fairy-house-building afternoons in this house.

ReGrounded is how I bring the big ideas home: into the words we use with our kids, the things we point out and the stories we tell.

honest question

Is ReGrounded for you?

Yes, if you…

✓  want your child to grow up genuinely caring about the natural world

✓  want nature to be something they notice, wonder about and value

✓  want ideas that fit the family life you already have

✓  like the sound of small shifts in language, attention, stories and habits

Probably not, if you…

×  are mainly after lists of nature crafts or planned outdoor activities

×  need convincing that a child’s relationship with nature matters in the first place
